#WaistTraining

No, it's not a new trick or type of training for your dog. It's a new fad that has grown popularity since Kim Kardashian posted a picture of herself in a waist training corset at the gym.

Waist training corsets were used back in the early 19th century to give women that hourglass figure, however they stopped in the 20th century due to health concerns. Essentially, you wear an overly tight corset all day to make your waist smaller and butt bigger without having to exercise or do any physical activity to attain that shape. It's stupid, really. Go to the gym.. Not the point, I won't get carried away.

Social media and celebrity endorsement has the power to make the population take steps backwards in terms of mental and physical status and health. Below I will list some of the negative effects that are very obvious with waist training..

1) "Once you take the garment off, your body will return to its usual shape. It’s also uncomfortable, restricts your movements, and if you wear it really tight, it can even make it difficult to breathe and theoretically could cause rib damage.”
(Mary Jane Minkin, M.D, 2014)

2) "There are myriad potential health consequences of wearing a tight corset for prolonged periods of time," she says. "They include damaging a nerve in the groin, which can cause a condition called meralgia paresthetica in which there may be painful burning and tingling of the thigh. ( Dr. Orly Avitzur, 2014)

3) “All you’re doing is compressing your stomach and pushing the fat around instead of getting rid of it. It’s a very temporary thing,” (Dr. Sharma, 2014)

So thanks to Kim Kardashian, this is what people are doing instead of working out and being active. Even though the obvious negative health effects are clearly out there.. people are still doing this, because, "Kim Kardashian does it!"

The power of fame and social media is scary.

#MyCalvins

Justin Bieber is a douche bag. Let's get that straight right off the bat.

I do not like the kid, I do not enjoy his music, nor do I think he is any form of a positive contribution to the world. He's pretty much a rich waste of oxygen.

Now that that's out of the way, let me explain why I am writing this blog post in a somewhat annoyed and angry tone.. I went on Twitter this week to sadly discover that the worlds top trending tag was #justinbiebercalvinkleins or #justinbieber. There were TWO top tags revolving around Justin Bieber and his new Calvin Kleins ad campaign. Why? Why was this filthy excuse of a person the top trend?

Because of this.

Apparently the world is in absolute and utter shock that anyone would use something like photoshop in an advertisement picture. People are making Justin Bieber's little bulge the talk of the world. Literally. It is absolutely everywhere I turn online, there is no escaping his little "package".

Now, back to why I am angry about this being the worldwide TOP trend of the week.

During this time, in which Justin Biebers shockingly photoshoped self was the most important and viewed and trending topic, over 2,000 people were massacred and slaughtered in Nigeria. Boko Haram militans opened fire on a village for days on end. People who ran away were slaughtered bombed, people who hid away in their homes were burned alive.. It was considered the absolute most horrific and deadliest attack to ever happen in Nigeria and the world cares more about... his little dick?

Technology is a resource we can use to raise awareness of issues that sadly, a lot of people wouldn't care to look into or educate themselves about. I would love to see the world use it for a positive advantage. This is starting to feel like more of a personal post than a school related post. I'm just sad about the worlds priorities. Sorry.

#MeninistTwitter

feminism

[fem-uh-niz-uh m]

noun
1.

the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the above statement, simply put, is equality of both sexes.

But of course, there are an unfortunate amount of men who can't understand that. It's as if they are so jealous that the word feminism, which I'll remind you, means equality of all sexes, that they have to act out maliciously and angrily.. especially online. I introduce to you.. #MeninistTwitter.

It's a new trending hashtag on twitter where men are taking stabs are feminists and feminism, and create their own "Meninism". I decided to check it out and I spent a good amount of time going through the tweets, the linked pictures, videos, and other references. I found a common theme within these tweets.. They are all related to possession of women as "property", them being in the kitchen/working, or sexual references and rape jokes.
It's as if the mere construction of the word, which doesn't actually mean what it sounds like, is enough to make them believe that women are attempting to attain more rights, privileges, and opportunities than men in every aspect of life. These tweets were degrading, threatening, cruel, and often times downright inhumane regardless of the gender being targeted.

It's 2015. How are some people so incompetent? A misunderstanding of the word has half the world saying "fuck feminism" which means "fuck equality of all genders". Are we not trying to take a step forward and not backward? What's next? Slavery will be coming back? It's ridiculous how hard headed and stubborn the world is. If people took the time to do some simple research, a lot of problems and stupid accounts like this wouldn't happen.
